HAMPA - Indigo

Description
Hampa in Indigo pairs the structured clarity of a classic herringbone weave with a deep, considered blue tone. The pattern introduces quiet rhythm across the surface, while the indigo shade brings depth and subtle richness.
Crafted from 100% hemp, this midweight fabric has a firm, confident handle with the body required for light upholstery, cushions and tailored curtains. The weave gives definition and durability, allowing the cloth to hold its shape while retaining the breathable character of hemp. The indigo colour enhances the geometry of the herringbone, creating a fabric that feels both grounded and composed.
Hampa Indigo is structured yet refined — a hemp herringbone designed for interiors where depth, texture and material integrity take precedence.
This fabric is currently available for pre-order only, with a minimum order of 4m. Sample swatches are available for immediate dispatch.

MORE INFORMATION
This fabric is produced in Eastern Europe using traditional mechanical methods that have been practiced for generations. Hemp has long been part of rural life here, where families have grown and processed the crop for centuries using time-honoured techniques.
The hemp is cultivated in Romania and neighbouring Ukraine by small farming collectives who follow organic principles. While the crops are not formally certified organic, they are grown without pesticides or synthetic fertilisers, and the fibre is spun, milled, woven, dyed, and finished using minimal water and no toxic chemicals.
Processing is entirely mechanical, following two classic stages — scutching and hackling — which separate and refine the long bast fibres. This gentle approach preserves the natural strength, length, and structure of the hemp, resulting in durable yarns with excellent integrity and texture.
Dyeing and finishing are carried out with environmentally responsible materials, including GOTS-certified, fibre-reactive dyes from trusted European partners. After dyeing, woven fabrics are sanforized for stability, and each batch undergoes thorough quality control before leaving the mill — ensuring consistent, high-quality hemp fabrics that reflect both heritage and care in production.
The mill is regularly audited under the SMETA framework (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) — an independent assessment of working conditions, health & safety, and responsible business practices.
