Answers to common questions about ordering and working with our hemp fabrics and trim.
Why choose hemp fabric?
Hemp fabrics are known for their natural texture, gentle structure and understated beauty, bringing warmth and character to interiors and clothing alike. To learn more about how hemp performs in interiors and clothing, read our Hemp Guide.
Can I order samples of your fabrics and trim?
Yes! And we very strongly recommend this as cut fabrics and trim are non returnable. We have worked hard to ensure that the picture is a good representation of the true texture and colour of a fabric. However different screens will show the colour slightly differently.
If you are wanting to match the colour of a previous order we would also recommend ordering a sample of the current batch as there may be some colour variation. You can add a comment at the checkout asking for the current roll.
Sample pieces of fabric approx 20cm x 15cm are available to order on the product page at £1 per piece. Samples of trim are also available.
Shipping for standard sample orders is free of charge and will be sent as standard using Royal Mail Tracked 48 service. If you need it quicker please contact us.
Larger returnable samples of approx. half a metre long, half width fabric can also be ordered. A charge of 25% of RRP is made for these and this will be refunded as long as the sample is received back in good condition within 28 days of order. Postage will be charged at the standard Folded rate. Please contact us if you require a returnable sample.
Is there a minimum order?
There is no minimum order for in stock fabrics. For pre-orders on fabrics that are not currently available, there is a minimum order of 4m. We sell fabric and trim by the metre.
Will my fabric arrive folded or on a roll?
Please select at checkout if you would like your order sent folded or on a roll.
Folded fabrics will be sent in a biodegradable bag and cardboard box or reusable courier pack. Rolled fabrics will be wrapped in plastic and sent in a box.
What are your delivery costs and how long does delivery take?
We aim to dispatch orders within two days of receipt.
Orders are shipped from the UK using Royal Mail and DPD.
Please select at checkout whether you would like your fabric sent folded or rolled.
Folded fabrics and Trim are charged at £5.95 and rolled fabrics at £12.95.
Next Day orders placed before 1pm are sent via DPD or another courier. Folded and Trim Next Day orders cost £8.95 and fabric rolls £18.
Orders over £300 are shipped free of charge.
For full details on our shipping policy view our Shipping page.
Can I return my fabric for a refund?
Once a fabric has been cut to length for your order it is not possible to return it for a refund. We would therefore strongly recommend ordering a sample of the fabric before placing a larger order.
We check the fabric carefully before sending but for larger orders and full rolls, flaws can sometimes slip through. If you believe your fabric is flawed please email us within 7 days of receipt of your order with photos of the problem and in most cases we can organise a replacement.
Please read our Returns and Refunds Policy for full details.
What do I do if a fabric I would like to order is out of stock?
The stock availability of a fabric is shown on the product page. If you would like to order a fabric which is currently out of stock please contact us and we will let you know the expected lead time for your delivery.

Where are your fabrics made?
Our fabrics are woven in mills across Eastern Europe and China. Learn more about our partners on our About page, with specific production details listed on each product page.
Will your fabrics shrink?
Most fabrics, particularly those made from natural fibres, have a tendency to shrink when washed anywhere from 5-10% depending upon the weave and composition. If you are looking to minimise shrinkage we would recommend dry cleaning.
When making curtains, covers and other items we would advise that an allowance is made for shrinkage.
When making clothes we would recommend always pre-washing the fabric first at the desired temperature.

Will hemp fabrics vary in colour and texture?
Hemp is a natural fibre and is not always uniform in colour or texture. The colour of the fibre can be affected by weather conditions during growing, harvesting and retting, resulting in natural variations in shade between harvests. Hemp fabrics may also contain occasional slubs or variations in yarn thickness. These are characteristic of the natural fibre.
Colour variations can also occur between production batches. Differences in the raw fibre, dyeing and finishing processes can all affect the final shade, even in natural, undyed fabrics.
We cannot guarantee an exact colour match between different batches or between new stock and previously supplied samples. If matching an existing fabric or ordering for a larger project, please contact us to request a cutting from the current batch before placing your order.
We recommend ordering sufficient fabric for your project at one time to minimise the risk of colour differences.
Will hemp fabrics fade in sunlight?
All fabrics are susceptible to fading over time, particularly when exposed to direct sunlight. The degree of fading depends on factors including the colour, weave, dyeing process and amount of light exposure.
To minimise fading, we recommend lining curtains and blinds and avoiding prolonged direct sunlight on upholstered furniture. Curtain leading edges and fabrics positioned close to windows can be particularly vulnerable. UV-protective window film or blinds may help reduce exposure.
Do hemp fabrics pill?
Pilling is the formation of small balls of fibre on the fabric surface, usually caused by friction and regular use. It can occur with both natural and synthetic fabrics, although the extent varies according to fibre composition, yarn construction and weave.
Hemp fibres are naturally strong and relatively long, which can help reduce the tendency to pill. However, pilling can still occur, particularly in blended fabrics or areas subject to repeated rubbing, such as upholstered seating.
Some surface fuzzing may also develop as the fabric softens with use. This is not necessarily a sign of poor quality and can often be managed by carefully removing loose pills with a suitable fabric shaver, taking care not to damage the weave.
Will my upholstery fabric require fire retardant treatment?
Fire Retardant treatment will be required if you intend to use our fabric for upholstery. Always check with your upholsterer about what is required, as there are different rules for domestic and commercial projects.
Can you apply a fire retardant treatment to your fabrics?
Yes, we do offer this service. Please contact us for a quote as this is an additional fee we can add to fabric orders on request.
